Ralph D. Roles,
D.C., D.A.C.A.N.

Dr. Ralph D. Roles was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. His first experience with chiropractic came as a teenager, when he was treated for an asthmatic condition. A pre-law major in college, his interests soon turned to fascination with the study of the human body, leading him to pursue a career in chiropractic. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pasadena, College of Chiropractic in 1976 and was the Valedictorian of his class. After eight successful years of private practice in Las Vegas, he, his wife Pamela, and their two children, Keeley and Kyle moved to Charleston, which is Pamela's native home. In 1987, Dr. Roles opened Charleston Neck & Back Center and has cared for thousands of people around the Lowcountry.

During a career that has spanned over three decades, Dr. Roles' continuing-education efforts have led to certifications from the Parker Chiropractic Research Foundation, the Southeast Back Institute, and the University of Florida, Colleges of Medicine and Health & Human performance. In April of 1993, upon graduating from a three year postgraduate program in Chiropractic Neurology through Logan Chiropractic College and the University of Central Florida, Dr. Roles made South Carolina Chiropractic history by becoming the first Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist in the state (D.A.C.A.N., a designation that is still unique to him in the state). Dr. Roles' goal as a physician is to provide his patients with the highest level of care through the use of his extensive diagnostic and treatment knowledge, utilizing state-of-the art rehabilitation equipment and having the most professional, caring and knowledgeable staff.

Dr. Roles continues to treat a wide variety of cases. He specializes in the treatment of headaches, neck pain and chronic lower back pain. His interest in the treatment of headaches came as a result of the outstanding success his patients experienced in response to his treatment. He also feels that there is no greater professional reward than being able to rid a person of such a painful, re-occurring condition. His often-made statement "no person should elect low back surgery before attempting all conservative treatment available" is a reflection of his experience that most cases of low back pain (lumbar disc involvement included) can be successfully treated conservatively. Dr. Roles currently does consulting and second opinion work for many local chiropractic and medical physicians.

Dr. Roles has been actively involved with the South Carolina State Chiropractic Association since the late 1980's. He served as president of the association for two consecutive terms, and for over ten years has been an active member of the Board of Directors. In 2010, Dr. Roles was appointed by Governor Nikki Haley to the South Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Today he is the Chairman of this Board. Also in 2010, the South Carolina Chiropractic Association honored him with the Palmetto Patriot Award for demonstrating good citizenship and exceptional achievement in his profession. In addition, he is a member of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board which is a national organization. In 2012 he was inducted into The Chiropractic Hall of Fame. He is especially humbled by this honor from his peers.

When not at his office caring for patients, you'll find Dr. Roles playing golf, racquetball or enjoying time with his family. Keeley and Kyle now both live in Austin, Texas with their spouses and children. Dr. Roles is currently a deacon for the Baptist Church, and actively seeks God's will in his life. His patients and colleagues will tell you that he is truly one of a kind - the best kind.

Barlett, D.C.

Dr. Barlett began his career in Charleston and spent his first 9 years in practice with Charleston Neck & Back Center. In 2012, after working in a multi-disciplinary clinic, he returned to Charleston Neck & Back Center. "Charleston Neck and Back Center provides a beautiful, state of the art facility and an excellent staff. I am thrilled to be reunited with my patients and colleagues."

Dr. Barlett was raised in New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania - just outside of Pittsburgh. His first chiropractic experience occurred when he was injured while playing football. "Chiropractic helped me tremendously. The treatments relieved my pain and I was able to play again almost instantly. This influenced my career choice."

Dr. Barlett started his education in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh. After two years of study he became more interested in the structure of the human body and changed the course of his education. He graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and later received his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

In practice, Dr. Barlett s primary interest and proficiency is the diagnosis and treatment of neck and back pain and other musculoskeletal conditions. He understands that treating back pain can be very complex and is devoted to researching and providing the most evidence based treatments available. Dr. Barlett has post-graduate training in spinal rehabilitation, nutrition, exercise and many other medical topics. He also serves as a utilization review specialist, helping insurance companies determine the most appropriate treatment based on clinical findings and research. "I am committed to providing the most compassionate, honest and professional care possible. Most of my patients have been with me for years, and I am grateful for the relationships I have made and the people I have been able to help."

When not in the clinic caring for his patients, Dr. Barlett is usually spending time with his wife Candace and their six children. He remains embarrassingly devoted to his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.
